Description

Explore traditional Japan on a day trip from Tokyo to Kanazawa and Shirakawago. Visit Shirakawago’s UNESCO-listed gassho-zukuri houses, stroll the serene streets, enjoy Kenrokuen Garden’s ponds and bridges, and wander Higashi Chaya’s historic teahouses and galleries with geisha culture. The tour combines history, culture, and stunning landscapes before returning to Tokyo.
The day begins with an independent departure from Tokyo Station to Kanazawa, kicking off a journey full of culture, history, and breathtaking landscapes. The first stop is the picturesque village of Shirakawago, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Famous for its traditional gassho-zukuri houses with steep thatched roofs shaped like praying hands, this charming destination was designed to withstand heavy snowfall. Upon arrival, visitors can enjoy lunch on their own and wander the tranquil streets, admiring the historic architecture, artisan workshops, and the serene atmosphere that feels frozen in time.
Next, the journey continues to Kenrokuen, considered one of Japan’s most beautiful gardens and a true oasis of art and nature. Its ponds reflecting trees and flowers, elegant bridges, stone lanterns, and carefully designed pathways MAKE an atmosphere of harmony and tranquility, offering a unique experience in any season.
Later, the itinerary heads to the historic district of Higashi Chaya, where you can stroll along cobblestone streets lined with traditional teahouses that retain the charm of the Edo period. You can also explore art galleries and local craft workshops, immersing yourself in the area’s rich cultural heritage. The district is also renowned for its geishas, who keep the traditional arts alive in some of the historic teahouses.
The day concludes with a return to Kanazawa Station to board the train back to Tokyo, after a full day of discoveries that combine dreamlike landscapes, living history, and the cultural essence of the Hokuriku region. This tour offers a comprehensive and unforgettable experience, leaving a lasting impression of traditional Japan and its harmonious connection with nature.

Far better than we expected. Having entrance To Kenrokuen Garden makes all the difference. For what we paid, it is exceptional value. You could tell it was properly organised. One of the best things we have booked online.

Volvería a hacerlo

Reservamos a último momento y fue un acierto total. Que venga con guía bilingüe en inglés y español hace toda la diferencia. Cambiamos la fecha dos días antes y no hubo ningún problema. Volveríamos a contratarlo.

Very good overall. UNESCO World Heritage Site ended up in all our photos. They gave us plenty of notice about a schedule change. One of the stops was closed that day and nobody mentioned it. Recommended overall.

We came away delighted. Good wine selection, and they explained each one. We really enjoyed the Higashi Chaya part. We would book again.
