Description

Discover the history and evolution of the textile industry in Catalonia and Manresa—from the late Middle Ages to the present day—through an exhibition dedicated to ribbon manufacturing, a sector that established Manresa as an international leader.

You can also learn about the history of the Manresa Canal (*Acequia de Manresa*), an impressive 26-kilometer waterway built in the 14th century. More than six hundred years later, it continues to transport water across the Bages region, serving a population of over 150,000 people.

The Manresa Water and Textile Museum (MAT) opened in 1992 within the city’s spectacular water reservoirs, which have since been restored and transformed into a unique museum space. It houses two permanent exhibitions: one dedicated to the history of water and the construction of the Canal—one of Catalonia's great medieval engineering feats—and another focused on the textile industry, offering insight into the sector's evolution through a machinery collection remarkable for its variety and excellent state of preservation.

If you are visiting Montserrat, the MAT is an ideal way to round out your day with a distinctive cultural experience suitable for all ages.

Not to be missed

Pleasantly surprised. Photos of Barcelona do not do it justice. Easily one of the best things we did.
